This Chromebook weighs only 1.2 kg and is easy to take anywhere, especially from home to school/college. A lightweight laptop is always a good thing for students who care for the sick.
The choice of port, I’d say, isn’t very good. There are two USB C connectors (one on each side) and a microSD card slot. The keyboard and trackpad on this laptop are normal, but what I liked about the keyboard is that it has a backlight that is useful when using the laptop late at night.
The 39Wh Chromebook Flip Battery can easily run for up to 8 hours on a single charge. It’s the most important thing for any student, I’d say. You need a laptop with a durable battery to go to school or university without worrying about the battery.

2. MacBook Air
If you have a good budget of about $1,000, I’d say MacBook Air is one of the best options for you. If you’re looking for cheaper laptops, don’t worry, scroll down this page and you’ll find many interesting options for you.
The design of the MacBook Air hasn’t changed much in a few years, but I’d say the design will be decent in 2019. One of the main problems that has not been solved in 7 years is its outdated presentation. It has the same 13.3-inch LED display with a resolution of 1440×900.
The laptop’s screen, okay, but the angles are really bad. But there’s good news for Apple. Rumour has it that Apple may launch a new, cheaper version of the 13-inch MacBook Air with retinal display at the next WWDC event in June 2018. If you want the best display on MacBook Air, wait.
Even with an OR screen, the MacBook Air has some good points. I’m going to talk about two important advantages, because I don’t want to miss my long positions.

It should also be mentioned that the MacBook Air weighs only 1.36 kg. It’s a bit heavier than the Chromebook above, but in general it’s a very light laptop, I’d say.

3. Dell XPS 13
The Dell XPS range is no secret because everyone knows it’s a premium Dell product line. The Dell XPS 13 I’m going to talk about is a late 2017 model, but with the latest Intel processor, the 8th generation Quad-Core i5-8250U.
There are not many changes in this notebook, except for the CPU. This is a slightly cheaper version of the XPS 13, which costs about $900. I won’t recommend the latest Dell XPS 13 9370 model, released in early 2018, because it costs twice as much as the XPS 13 9360.
The XPS 13 is equipped with a 13.3-inch matte touch screen. The smaller the borders, the more attractive they are, and this is one of the main features of this great notebook. The screen offers good color contrast and the viewing angles on this laptop are, I would say, excellent.
You’ll find aluminum in the laptop bag and carbon fiber in the keyboard and touchpad area. The quality of the assembly is solid with this machine and there is nothing to complain about.
In terms of memory, Dell offers 128GB SSD M.2 and 8GB DDR3 RAM for easy multitasking. The performance of this machine is the highest, and the latest Core i5-8250U is a nice improvement over the previous generation, Intel’s Core i5-7200U.
The keyboard and trackpad are among the best in the industry. Choosing a port for this laptop is not bad. There are 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB Type-C (Thunderbolt 3) and a normal size SD card slot. Another useful feature of this XPS 13 is a fingerprint reader to unlock the screen. It wasn’t mentioned on Amazon, but the buyers still appreciate it.
The Dell XPS 13 9360 also weighs the same as the Asus Chromebook Flip described above, 1.2 kg (2.7 lbs). You can easily carry this laptop in your school or university bag.
And finally, battery life. According to the telegraph, the battery life can be as long as 12 to 15 hours, but I would say that we can assume an average battery life of 10 hours. 10 hours of battery life in a car as powerful as this one, I’d say that’s very good Dell work.
Overall, the Dell XPS 13 is without a doubt one of the best laptops for nursing students.

4. Asus Vivo book 14
This is the Asus Vivo book – a cheap laptop from Asus that costs about $400. According to the specifications and quality, this is one of the best laptops for a student nurse.
The Vivobook is equipped with a 14-inch Full HD-TN screen that is very sharp and bright, but will not surprise you with its viewing angles. It’s the third laptop on the list that doesn’t have a better angle. If the angles don’t bother you too much, I’d say it’s a good option for you.
The bottom of the laptop is made of plastic, but the lid and the keyboard/trackpad part are made of aluminium. Just so you know: A fingerprint reader is located at the top corner of the trackpad. It’s pretty rare to see a laptop with a fingerprint scanner on such a budget.
The laptop is equipped with 128GB eMMC memory and 4GB DDR3 RAM. The eMMC is quite slow compared to the SSD, but a student nurse can’t find the face of performance if you don’t push it to the limit. The Vivobook is equipped with the Intel Pentium N4200 processor, which is more intended for notebooks in the lower price range than for advanced users. You have to think about it.
The Asus Vivobook 14 weighs only 3.3 pounds, which I think is quite portable. The following connectors are available on this notebook: 1 USB 2.0, 1 USB 3.0, 1 USB Type-C (not Thunderbolt), HDMI and a standard SD card slot.
One of the best things about this laptop is the battery. Asus says the battery can last up to 12 hours, but this is not 100% accurate. According to Lon TV, the battery can run for 9 to 10 hours, which is unusual for a $400 laptop. If you’re looking for cheap, inexpensive devices with a price/performance ratio of $400, I bet no other laptop comes close to this beast. In fact, this Acer Aspire E15 is only $350 and is the best-selling traditional notebook on Amazon.
The design and appearance of the laptop is not dazzling. The design is simple and justifies the price. The laptop is made of plastic and doesn’t look cheap. It has a 15.6-inch Full HD screen that offers good colour contrast and good viewing angles.
This laptop comes with a 1 TB 5400 rpm hard disk drive and 4 GB DDR4 RAM. You may think this cell phone will be slow, but it’s not. This laptop works pretty well, but if you expect better performance from this device, you can fix it quickly. You can add an extra 8GB of RAM to the open slot on this laptop. It’ll only cost you about $100, and it’s worth it.
Pay attention: There’s a more expensive version of this laptop that costs just over $200. If you have a budget of about $600, I strongly recommend this option because it comes with 256GB SSD, 8GB RAM and GeForce MX150 graphics. You can find this option here. It’s probably one of the best laptops under $700 you can get.
This notebook weighs 2.4 kg, which is quite heavy and difficult to carry on the road. Bringing a laptop to school/university may not be the best choice for you. Acer has provided backlighting in this cheap, rarely seen laptop.
Acer claims that the battery life of this laptop is 12 hours, but Laptopmag confirms that you can easily use 8 hours of battery life while surfing the Internet and other ordinary users at home. A $350 laptop with an 8-hour battery life is a pretty amazing thing, I’d say.
I am really impressed with the quality of this laptop, and I would recommend this better laptop to any nurse who works on it.

If you’re on a tight budget and need a laptop for basic research, the Acer Chromebook 15 is the best choice because it costs less than $250.
The design of the laptop is not exactly first class, but it is made of plastic that is very durable, and at this price you can’t complain about the design of the plastic. The screen is a 15.6-inch IPS panel, which is very good and has good viewing angles.

8. Microsoft Surface Pro 4
You may already know that this is clearly not a budget or a cheap laptop. In case you haven’t heard: The Surface Pro line is a line of high-end Microsoft laptops that are perfect for every student, that’s why I chose this laptop here.
Surface Pro 4 is a 2-in-1 touch screen laptop that is lightweight and easy to carry. Surface Pro features a magnesium housing that is durable, which really justifies the price.
It has a 12.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels. The screen is very bright and has an excellent viewing angle. The pixel per inch (PPI) of this screen is 267, which is quite impressive.
You can view this laptop from any angle using the standard Microsoft has provided for this laptop. This will be really useful material, especially for a student like you when you are recording in class.

1. Productivity
Storage
This is a very important aspect of any laptop that you should check before purchasing. You should never buy a laptop with a hard drive unless you have a very small budget. If you have a budget in excess of $400 or $500, you should always carry SSDs with your laptop. It runs much faster than a normal hard drive.
You should not choose a laptop with an SSD of less than 128 GB, except for Chromebooks. 128GB of data is enough to install some important software and store some of your personal media files, such as audio and video files, photos, and so on. You can always get more than 128 GB, but don’t go under it.

Look at Core i5 processors if you have a budget. It runs faster than the Core i3 processor and doesn’t cost you much. If you have a minimum budget, then the main i3 laptop is for you. I’m not offering you a laptop with an i7 processor core for the nursing school because it’s more expensive and a nursing student might not need a laptop with this performance.
If you get a laptop for multiple purposes, such as nursing school, entertainment, games, etc., you can use it for different purposes. Otherwise I advise you to switch to an i3 or i7 kernel and save your money.
RAM
You certainly shouldn’t choose a laptop with 2 GB RAM, because it can’t handle many things at the same time. Always use 4 GB of RAM and it won’t cost you much. My personal choice for a cheap laptop with 4 GB RAM is the Acer Aspire E15. Again: Never look for a 2 GB RAM model.
2. Portability
Whatever happens, every student wants a lightweight, portable laptop, and that’s what I will advise students who care for the sick. 6 of the 8 laptops on this list are lightweight and portable. You can choose one of these options.
An ideal weight for laptops of different sizes,
1. 10-12.5 = Up to 2.7 lbs (1.22 kg)
2. 13″= Up to 3 pounds (1,36 kg)
3. 14-15 = up to 5 pounds (2,26 kg)
Of course a light weight is not mandatory for every student, but it is for your own good. It is lighter than a laptop and easier to take to school or university.
3. Battery life
This should be the most important aspect of a notebook for a student who brings his lucky boy to school or university. You should never buy a laptop with a battery life of less than 6 hours. If you don’t want to take your laptop to school/college and use it at home, you may have no problem.
On this list, MacBook Air has the best battery life, 12 hours. You should choose if you prefer a battery with a longer service life.
4. The operating system:
Both Mac OS and Windows are suitable for nursing students. You should ask your teacher for advice on the software you need and the operating system that best suits your needs. And based on that, you can make a decision.
I won’t discuss which operating system is best for you. Both Windows and Mac OS have their own advantages and disadvantages. MacBooks are usually expensive, but they offer different performance while you can easily get a Windows laptop at a very low price.
If you can afford a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro, I suggest you choose one without hesitation, otherwise you can always choose a good Windows computer.
